Jewish Care

Jewish Care is the largest health and social care organisation serving the Jewish community in London and the south east. Our 1,100 staff and 2,500 volunteers mean that we are able to run over 70 centres and specialist services, caring for more than 7,000 Jewish people weekly.  It costs £50 million to provide these services.  Funding from government, trust funds and fees from service users totals £35 million.  In 2008/9, Jewish Care has to raise £17 million from within the community just to keep existing services going. In line with the demographic trend broadly, the Jewish community is ageing too, increasing the need for care services and the burden on the community to support this vital work through volunteering and fundraising.

The Jewish Community of Redbridge
The London Borough of Redbridge has the second largest Jewish Community in the UK, estimated to be 18,482. The surrounding district of Epping Forest in Essex has the tenth largest concentration of Jews, numbering up to 4,640 Jews. As well as these two major populations, Jews also live in Waltham Forest (1,800), Barking & Dagenham (683) and Havering (1,403).  Jewish Care serves all these communities which total over 27,000 Jews.

Jewish Care in Redbridge
Virtually all of the services which Jewish Care provides can be found in the local community.  Over £5.5million is spent by Jewish Care delivering services in Redbridge. The following is not an exhaustive list but highlights key work, costs and annual revenue deficits where relevant.
